Materials and Methods:
When building this Telus sign, which had to appease the city of Edmonton’s Heritage Board along with its own branding requirements, TDH was able to meet both objectives. The sign is built with an internal welded steel structure, including a ladder for servicing. Open-faced neon channel letters made of sheet metal for ‘Telus’ and more than 150 light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs. Purple neon units create multiple layers on the return of the sign which has fabricated step-ups to help the retro look. The sign is 7.3 m high by 1.6 m thick (24 x 5.3 ft) and was anchored to the concrete column hidden behind the brick using stainless spacers and insert anchors.
